A Beautiful Beginning
Married on Maui!

Kirk and
Laura Boes
I met Laura while she was on vacation here on Maui in 1983. I had lived here since 1973 when my family moved here from California. I asked her to marry me nine days later (she says ten). We did get married three years later on June 29th, 1986 (we both agree on this).
When we were married we both believed in God, but didn't really have much of a personal relationship with him. We thought he was sort of far off. In retrospect, we look back on our wedding ceremony and rejoice that we had a Christian minister who sincerely prayed for us, read "the love chapter" from the Bible (1 Corinthians 13) and married us in the name of the Jesus.
About three years after we had been married we began searching for answers to some of life's tougher questions (like what in the world are we doing here, anyway?!) My older brother Rick, and his wife Peggy, had given us a Bible as a Christmas gift and we began to read one chapter together every night, in the New Testament, in what are called "the Gospels". ("Gospel" translates to "Good News", as we would discover.) The gospels are the four books written by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John; four men who followed Jesus and saw with their own eyes his life's ministry, his death, and they saw him risen from the dead! In a very short time, we came to understand that not only was God real, but that Jesus really is who he says he is, God's Son. And that's not all. The best news, the really good news, is that He loves us and is on our side! When you finally realize that the God who created the universe cares about you personally, and is for you, not against you, you experience something that changes you forever.
We are not perfect people, and we don't have all the anwers, however, we are loved by one who is perfect and does have all the answers, and for us that is truly remarkable. We have had some tough times in our marriage with the things the world throws at us, but with Jesus on our side, we remain commited to Him, and to each other.
Laura and I both want to share with you, that God loves you, wants to forgive, cleanse and heal you from every wrong thing and hurt in your life, and he will do it, if you will just ask him. There is no other foundation you can build your life upon, like the foundation that Jesus offers, and he is the solid rock you should build your marriage upon.
Many people have already discovered this life-changing truth. We didn't until we had been married for three years and we both wished we would have found out sooner (like WAY sooner). If you'd like to talk more about this with us we'd welcome it. Or if you desire to know Jesus personally, all you have to do is say a simple prayer, something like; "Jesus, I want to know you, I want to experience your love and forgiveness in my life. Please come into my heart and reveal yourself to me. In Jesus' name. Amen"
The Bible is God's way of talking to us, and prayer is God's way of listening to us, so if you want to have a personal relationship with him, check it out. He's real, he loves us, and he's on our side. That really is good news. Thanks for letting us share our faith with you. If you need help getting connected with a good church don't hesitate to ask. I'm a good researcher and even here in Hawaii I bet I can find a solid Bible believing church near where you live! Our God is an awesome God!
"Aloha ke akua" means "God is love".
